Our Work

Our Mission

Fort Wayne Trails, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to advocate for a safe, accessible trail system that improves quality of life.

Fort Wayne Trails, Inc. was created in 2011 as a merger of three local trails groups. The Rivergreenway Consortium was organized in the 1970s and worked with the city to develop the trails along our local rivers. Aboite New Trails began in the early 2000s as a response to the lack of pedestrian and bicycle facilities in the southwest suburban area of our county. Northwest Allen Trails also began during this time, with a focus on areas north and northwest of downtown Fort Wayne.

Since 2011 Fort Wayne Trails, Inc., has worked to complete their visions and to work with municipal and community partners to further develop a system that connects our communities to each other.

Advocacy

Advocacy is crucial to Fort Wayne Trails because much of the trail network is owned and maintained by public agencies, and trail users need a strong, unified voice. Through advocacy, we work with local, state, and regional partners to influence funding, policy, and planning decisions that impact trails. This ensures trails are built, connected, maintained, and improved with the needs of the community in mind.

Fundraising

Fort Wayne Trails is 100% privately funded and rely on community support to carry out our mission. Donations allow us to advocate for trail funding and policy, provide education and resources, and serve as the voice of trail users across Allen County. Without fundraising, our ability to support, protect, and grow the local trail network would not be possible.
